Paying for Care: Medicaid, Long-Term Care Insurance, and What We Accept
The question underneath every other question is how to pay. Here is a plain answer.
What we accept
Grace Haven accepts private pay, Medicaid, and long-term care insurance. Our rates are $4,725 per month for a single private room and $5,250 for the extra-large room, all-inclusive, with no move-in or application fees.
Private pay
Most families start here, using a parent's pension, Social Security, savings, or the proceeds from selling a home. Because our fee is flat, the number you see is the number you pay, which makes planning possible.
Long-term care insurance
If your parent bought a long-term care policy years ago, find it. Many policies cover licensed adult foster care and assisted living in Michigan. Read the elimination period (the days you pay before coverage starts), the daily benefit, and whether the home needs to be licensed. We are. Call the insurer and ask them to confirm in writing.
Medicaid
Michigan Medicaid can help cover care in a licensed adult foster care home for residents who qualify financially and medically. The application goes through the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and the rules about income, assets, and the five-year look-back are detailed. We are not able to give legal or financial advice, but we can tell you what we have seen work and point you to the county office and to elder law attorneys in the Cadillac area who do this every day.
Veterans
If your parent or their spouse served, ask the Wexford County Veterans Affairs office about Aid and Attendance. It is a pension benefit that many eligible families never claim.
