Why a Pharmacist-Owned Home Changes How Medications Are Handled
Ask any adult child what worried them most before their parent moved into care and medications come up almost every time. Is Dad getting his blood pressure pill? Did Mom double up on her water pill again? Who is watching the interactions?
Grace Haven is owned by Mike Moffit, a pharmacist. That is not a marketing line. It changes how the home runs.
Medication administration is part of every day
Our staff administer medications on schedule, every day, as part of the monthly fee. Residents do not manage their own pill organizers. Families do not have to drive up to refill them.
One pharmacy, one record
Medications are filled through Bostick's Drug Store in Manton and delivered to the home. One pharmacy means one complete record of everything a resident takes, which is how interactions and duplicate prescriptions get caught. Many seniors living alone end up with bottles from two or three pharmacies and nobody looking at the whole list.
Changes get noticed
When a new prescription comes back from a doctor's visit or a hospital stay, a pharmacist's eye on it is a safety net. Is this a duplicate of something the resident already takes? Is the dose right for someone in their eighties? Those questions get asked here.
What this means for you
You stop being the pharmacy. You can visit your parent and talk about the grandkids instead of counting pills. If something changes, you will hear about it from us.
