Staying Home at the End: Hospice and End-of-Life Care at Grace Haven
One of the quiet fears families carry is what happens when a parent's health declines. Will they have to move again, to somewhere unfamiliar, at the worst possible time?
Care at every level
Grace Haven provides care from long-term and respite through end of life. When a resident's needs change, our first question is how to meet them here, in the room they know, with the staff who know them.
Hospice comes to us
Hospice agencies serving the Cadillac and Manton area come to Grace Haven. Hospice nurses, aides, chaplains, and social workers work alongside our staff. Equipment is delivered to the room. Pain and comfort medications are managed with the pharmacist's oversight that is part of how our home runs.
What families can expect
Honesty. We will tell you what we see. Privacy: every room is private, so family can gather, stay late, and say what needs saying without an audience. Presence: staff awake through the night, so no one is alone.
What a family said
The niece of a longtime resident wrote on our Facebook page that she was glad we took care of her uncle for as long as he was there, and called the home one of the cleanest and most caring she had seen in 44 years as a nursing assistant. We are grateful for that, and we take it as the standard.
Talking about it early
It is easier to discuss wishes before they are needed. If your parent has an advance directive, a medical power of attorney, or a DNR, bring copies when they move in. If they do not, we can point you to resources in the area.
