Three Meals a Day, Cooked Here: Food at Grace Haven
If you want to know how a care home really runs, eat a meal there. Food is where care shows.
Cooked in our kitchen
Breakfast, lunch, and supper are cooked here, in the kitchen off the dining room, by our chef, Cam. Residents know him. Families know him. Snacks are available through the day.
Family style
The dining room has long farmhouse tables, not single trays in single rooms. Residents eat together, which is good for appetite and better for company. One family who reviewed us on Google wrote that "the dining room is family style and open," and that is exactly how we meant it.
Why meals matter medically
Seniors living alone often stop cooking. Weight loss, weakness, and confusion follow, and the cause gets missed. Three real meals a day, with someone noticing who is eating and who is not, is one of the quiet ways a home like ours keeps people well.
What we can and cannot do
We will happily accommodate preferences and ordinary dislikes. We are not able to provide specialized diets such as gluten-free, celiac, or vegan, and nutritional supplements like Ensure are provided by the family. We would rather be clear about that up front.
Celebrations
Birthdays get a cake. The Fourth of July gets a BBQ. Fall gets a festival with families invited. Food is how we mark time here.
